About

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ.

My name is The Rev. Andrew Durbidge and I am the priest-in-charge of the Church of St Luke and St Matthew, an Episcopal Church in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn NY, in the Diocese of Long Island. I am an Australian living in the USA and grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of God here.

I’ve created this blog as a way to publish my sermons. Most of my sermons from 2015 to 2017 were given at The Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City New York where I was curate. Many from 2018 were given at various parishes I visited in the Diocese of Long Island. Sermons from January 2019 have been given at St Luke and St Matthew. It is a privilege to be able to preach the gospel each week and to make the gospel relevant for all of us today.

Our world is full of challenges just like it was in Jesus time. Our human nature is much the same, probably if anything the only thing that has stayed consistent over the millenia. The good news of Jesus Christ can help us to reorientate ourselves away from selfish motivation by showing us how to live together in community, loving God and our neighbor, and together making the world a better place for all.

When we come together to worship God and to share in the eucharist we are sharing in the body and blood, the very essence of Jesus Christ. It is in this sharing that we are made whole again. Breaking open the gospel and the word of God makes it accessible and tasty for us, something we keep coming back for.

I pray that as you read and digest how the Holy Spirit has spoken through me you will find the Holy Spirit speaking to you too.

Peace and Blessings
